Take this brief quiz (text courtesy of the L.A.
City Attorney’s office) and see!
1. Do you admit to being a member of a
gang?
2. Have you been identified as a
gang member by a tested, reliable
informant?
3. Have you been identified
as a gang member by an untested, unreliable informant with documented
corroboration?
4. Have you been
identified as a member of a gang by a law-abiding
citizen?
5. Do you dress in gang
attire?
6. Do you use hand signs
(associated with a gang)?
7. Do you
have gang tattoos?
8. Do you openly
associate with known gang members?
9.
Have you been arrested with known gang
members?
If you can answer yes to any
one of the above, consider yourself a gang “affiliate” according to
the CALGANGS database. If you can answer yes, to two of the above, you can be
listed as a full-fledged gang
member!
The list of criteria was handed
out at a police-community meeting, July 19, in Oakwood. Police officers were
unable to say how someone could check to see if they are listed, or how someone
could prove they were not a gang member and get off the list.
