MTA yard closing after 98 years

The bus yard that once housed the old Red Cars when Venice was connected with Los Angeles by trolley, has been traded by the MTA for a lot at Jefferson and Rodeo avenues.

That lot is owned by Venice Art Lofts, which is building condominiums across the street. The strikers say the MTA is planning to spend $8 million on the new lot, although it will not pay for their health care.

There is no word yet what use will be made of the Venice lot. Neighbors have suggested either parking or affordable housing, or both.
